OK, it took a little bit longer than I thought it would….

I had previously told you about how you could read this blog on your Kindle Fire via the Pulse app, as Amazon will not allow blog subscriptions on the Kindle Fire as they would with most other Kindles.  While that works / worked for many of you, others found it to be a pain in the neck due to various hiccups.  After numerous emails and comments received from you, I did come up with a new solution…

There is a free app in the Amazon App store you can now download to your Fire.  To check it out and download it (for free, of course), just click here or type in http://amzn.to/freefireapp into your computer’s web browser.

I’m calling this version 1.0 of the app, as I have various enhancements written down I need to forward to the programmers (I know you are reading this, so get ready to receive the list!).

So, what do you get with the free app?  It’s pretty straight-forward, and there are not a lot of whistles and bells: if I post a new free book or Kindle tip to the blog, the app will automatically update and you can read it right there.  If I have a “click here” link in the blog post for you to download a free book, you can click on the “click here” with your Kindle Fire and it will open up a new page –very similar to a computer’s web browser – for you to download the book to your Kindle Fire.  You can also start shopping for other material from the Amazon website.

Please note this free app is not just limited to the Kindle Fire, but will also work with any Android-based system such as your DROID phones or other Droid-enabled tablet computers.

So, if you have a Kindle Fire, why not give this app a test drive?  After all, it is free – of you like it, great, I would appreciate a favorable review on the app’s page on the Amazon website.  If it’s not for you (after all, it is free) it won’t cost you anything and you can quickly delete it from your Kindle Fire.  Just click here or type in http://amzn.to/freefireapp into your computer’s web browser.

Thanks so much. I have your instructions on how to do this using Pulse, but never got around to it. When I read today’s blog and saw there was an even easier way to do this, I got right down to it. I actually prefer getting your blog as I always have on my K2, because of the easier reading, but now that I have a Fire I like the option. Of course I also have you on my Facebook page. Seems you are everywhere. I not only read your blog to get free books, but to educate me about all things Kindle. Mary

Michael, thank you for this one!

Have been a subscriber to your “Kindle Tips, Tricks, and Shortcuts” on my Kindle 2 for quite awhile now, and to find this just adds to my availability of information access, not only on the Kindle 2 and Facebook, but now on my Kindle Fire as well.

Your instruction for version 1.0 of the app were perfect, and it downloaded to my Kindle Fire within seconds.

This is not going to stop me from remaining as a loyal subscriber on the Kindle 2, it just adds to everything… and thanks again!

My pleasure, Michael. It’s always better to have a couple of different ways of approaching something, and as much as I enjoy my Kindle Fire, it’s still my Kindle 2 that I use for extended late night reading, so that subscription is not one that I would drop.

    Thanks again!

If you have an early version of the Android software on it, it may not work.

I totally love mine ever since I downloaded Free books and tips I have fallen in love with all the info and use it daily. I have one important question has anyon else had to replace their kindle for not charging properly or for charger or kindle heating up. I have had to do this twice and am now on my 3rd kindle since Christmas. My kids got together and paid full price for new kindle not refurbish with extra warranty what gives. Although the people at CS were absolutely wonderful and helpfull. Just wonder if anyone had same problem. I totally love my kindle fire I can finally read w/o headaches and see clearly since I am legally blind in my left eye (no sympathy please) please let me know or post about similar problems o your bog

I haven’t heard of a problem like this, but me not hearing about it is not enough conclusive evidence. Has anyone else reading this reply on the blog heard of this issue?

  15. karen  Says:

YES. My Kindle FIRE wouldn’t charge properly. I finally discovered that the charger cord itself wasn’t making contact with the port of the Fire itself. It was not a problem with the cord; the port itself was wiggling and unstable. I had that unit for nine months (phew – just inside warranty) and Amazon customer service was outstanding. Sent me a new one that day, with an email instructing me how to return my original unit for an exchange. I didn’t have to pay postage at all. As usual I am very happy with Amazon and my Kindles.
I don’t know if this helps or not, but I recommend that you give them a call. Especially if there is extended warranty in effect.
    good luck,
    Karen
